SS Integrated Project Guidelines

Integrated Project_Social Studies
Std: VIII                                         Topic: Buying a Car:Take your happiness on a long ride’

                                                                                      - Drive your dream through technology.

Objective: The student will be able to: integrate social studies with other disciplines and will enable them to ‘self directed learning’.

Material Required:
a)      To be sourced out by the student:
·         Information related to the topics.
·         Pictures related to the topics.
·         Pair of scissors, pencils, sketch pens, glue and decorative materials
·         Scrapbook
·         Outline map of the world (political)
b)     To be sourced out by the teacher:
·         Books and website links related to the topics.

Procedure to carry out the project:
  1. Entry Note: Teacher to ask students about their favourite car. Let learners state their reasons as to why they like a particular car.
  2. Start with a note: Let’s start the project with the thought in mind that drive your dream through technology.
  3. Make a timeline of the following important events related to evolution of cars through the years.
Ø  First steam powered automobile capable of human transportation.
Ø  Invention of the electric ignition system.
Ø  Introduction of the Volkswagen Beetle.
Ø  The first solar car invented.
  1. Elaborate the contribution of Karl Benz, the inventor of the first petrol powered car. (Benz Patent-Motorwagen)
  2. Mention the history of the Detroit Automobile Company in America.
  3. Explain the current budget provisions related to buying a luxury car (BMW, Audi, Maruti Ciaz, Tata Aria etc ) or a commercial car (Tabcab, Meru, Cool Cab, etc) in India.
  4. Discuss how the concept of buying imported cars evolved in India.
  5. Mark four countries famous for their automobile industry on a world map.
  6. Describe the car manufacturing industry in Japan and its relevance in India.
  7. Explain the growth of the car manufacturing industry in India.
  8. Discuss the contribution of TATA Motors/ Mahindra Motors in revolutionizing the automobile industry in India.
  9. Explain about the mineral and power resources involved in making a car using the following table.

Two countries where the mineral is most commonly found

Note to the teacher: Kindly share the Assessment rubrics with the students at the time of Project assignment in order to ensure that students are aware of the assessment parameters. The marks for social studies to be doubled while entering in the mark register.
